Student Member Services

Student Member Services (SMS) encourages and assists students pursuing an education in accounting, finance, or business administration and who plan to enter the accounting profession. SMS serves many roles for the professional NABA chapter and provides oversight and support to our student chapters – University of Maryland College Park, University of the District of Columbia, Bowie State University, and Howard University. The goal of the Committee is to continually enhance the student membership experience at NABA.

SMS sponsors several key programs and services designed to address the needs of students majoring in the fields of accounting, finance, or business administration. These opportunities are intended to provide opportunities for students to obtain the grooming necessary to begin a successful career in business and to obtain competencies that are not taught in the classroom such as Business Etiquette, Networking, and Money Management. We provide workshops, social events, networking opportunities and scholarships to our students. Some programs that the Committee is responsible for includes:

  • Student Officer Workshop Training
  • Pre-ERSC Workshop
  • SCREP Workshops
  • Scholarship Program
  • Spring Day with NABA
  • IRS Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program

SMS is also responsible for recruiting students to join the professional chapter upon graduation. This year SMS plans to increase membership and make sure our students are aware of the opportunities available to them through NABA.
